Australian advertising company says no to atheist advertisements that it believes may be "possibly offensive"
The Atheist Foundation of Australia (AFA) has filed complaints after they were refused permission to run atheistic advertisements on city buses.
The AFA (who received $16,000 in donations to display signs reading, “Atheism—Celebrate Reason”) lodged the complaint with the Anti-Discrimination Commission of Tasmania last year and e-mailed a separate complaint to the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission on Jan 27, citing religious discrimination.
APN Outdoor, the company that controls buss advertising in all but two metropolitan cities in Australia, declined the advertisement proposal.
According to Paul McBeth, the general manager of marketing at APN, public busses are owned by the state governments. McBeth said that advertisements that might offend were not permitted. Link to original.
